CWE in RMC

The June issue of Railroad Model Craftsman will include an article on the Chesapeake, Wheeling & Erie Railroad. Here's a link to the RMC website which shows the cover: http://www.rrmodelcraftsman.com/

Stephen Priest, the editor of RMC, did the drawing of the track plan and it's incredible! In addition to being a real work of art, it includes more detail than I ever thought would be possible. I have always imagined what the track plan would look like if it was drawn by a professional- it turned out better than I ever could have hoped for.

Having the railroad featured in RMC is a dream come true. Thanks to everyone at RMC for making it possible.

  1. Saw the add at RMC for the June issue! Congratulations Tom! Think about it: you're in the same magazine that did the excellent series on W. Allen McClelland's Virginian & Ohio!

  3. Congrats Tom, gotta pick up a copy this weekend. Proud to show and tell guest operators about your proto-freelance railroad when they see the modern CWE hoppers roaming the Michigan Interstate. Always an inspiration to see photos on your blog, now even better in print.

  4. Thanks for the kind comments, guys.

Joe- Allen's work has always been an inspiration to me, and it's a real honor to have the CWE in the same magazine that featured his series on the V&O.

Jas- The scenery you've done so far looks great! Keep up the good work.

Greg- Don't go out to get it this weekend- I don't think it's out yet. It will probably hit the newsstands in a week or so. And that Michigan Interstate covered hopper project is about to start...

  7. I picked up two copies at B&N yesterday and very much enjoyed the article. It is great to see your work on the cover and hopefully more folks will now find your way to the blog. The track plan was very well done. Is Logan Mine Supply the phosphate loader?

    Best,

    Gerard

  8. Scott and Mike- thanks for the kind words.

Gerard- glad you enjoyed the article. Logan Mine Supply is the ammonium nitrate unloader at the end of the team track in Logan. I looked quickly through the blog and I don't think I've posted a photo of it before. Perhaps I'll post a few photos when the scenery in the area is a little more complete.

  10. I agree and enjoyed the article. Great rairoad and it is great to read the new and improved RMC. The CWE looks like a great railroad to operate. It also captures the 1970's look very well....especially the coal trains as that is what I remember from watching Penn Central coal trains...a mix of 100 ton and lower capacity hopper cars.
